Illegal Immigration:

America is a magnet to people all over the world who want to pursue freedom and make a better life for themselves and their families.  We are, however, a nation of laws and our laws MUST be respected.

As a State Senator, I have lobbied our federal government to erect a permanent physical barrier along the southern border to stop the constant influx of illegal aliens.  A nation that cannot control its borders cannot ensure its sovereignty.

On the state level, I was proud to co-sponsor the bill that permanently stopped the practice of issuing driver’s licenses to illegal aliens.  I also sponsored legislation that would require all employers in Tennessee to verify the legal status of all prospective employees with the Department of Homeland Security.

Most recently, I filed legislation to allow employers to require English in the workplace without fear of lawsuits.  We are also working to crackdown on those who produce and use fraudulent documentation when applying for a job in Tennessee.

Gun Control

The second amendment to the United States Constitution clearly protects the right to keep and bear arms.

I will oppose any effort to infringe on this fundamental right.

I am proud to be endorsed by and a member of The National Rifle Association.

Taxes

Tennessee is one of the lowest taxed states in the nation and I hope to keep it that way.  My wife and I were proud “horn honkers” during the income tax battle, and I will oppose any effort to institute a state income tax.

I will continue to support a pro-business economic agenda that is friendly to small business.  Lower taxes, less regulation, and fiscal discipline within state government will ensure that Tennessee maintains a strong economy.

Sanctity of Life

Government should protect the lives of all people, born and unborn.  It was my honor to co-sponsor Senate Joint Resolution 127, which would take the abortion debate out of the hands of activist judges, and put it into the hands of the people.

I am proud to be endorsed by Tennessee Right to Life

Gay Marriage

Marriage is between one man and one woman.

Education

Having spent a brief period of time as a teacher, I know what a challenging profession it can be.  I have enormous respect for those who dedicate themselves to educating our children.

As a State Senator, I have been an advocate for teachers.  We should spend more money in the classroom and less on bureaucracy and administration.

I support efforts to give parents with children in failing schools more options, including the expansion of charter schools in Tennessee.
